Programs
Beechwood Home provides an extensive Activity program, which addresses the whole
person. Our Activities staff includes a certified recreational therapist who leads
the activities staff in programs designed to maximize socialization, stimulate cognition,
foster relaxation and/or to simply provide enjoyment and leisure. Numerous outings are
designed to allow all of our residents who are interested to participate in social
and community activities.
Additionally, our staff includes a music therapist who offers group and individual
programs to allow those with an interest in listening and/or playing musical instruments
to enjoy the healing benefits of music. Music therapy is the use of music within
a therapeutic relationship to address physical, psychological, cognitive, behavioral
and/or social functioning for people of all ages and disabilities. Because music
therapy is a powerful and non-threatening medium, unique outcomes are possible.
Music is used as a means to help maintain or improve important life skills, health
and wellness. She is skilled at adapting instruments to allow even those with limited
physical function to play.
Our chaplain and social workers have training in dealing with the many emotional
challenges that our residents with chronic neurological conditions face. They provide
individual support and counseling as needed. A variety of spiritual programs are
offered as well, including but not limited to traditional church services, educational
classes, healing touch, Bible study and discussion groups. If more advanced assistance
is needed, a psychologist, psychiatrist and Neuropsychologist from the Counseling
Source are available on site to provide treatment and support.
On site therapy is provided by Beechwood’s own Physical, Occupational and Speech
Therapists. Our goal is to maximize independent mobility whether residents are
walking or using assistive technology such as motorized wheelchairs adapted to meet
the residents’ functional abilities. Residents can participate in fitness programs
designed by therapists and supervised in our therapy gym, which is open to all residents.
Additional maintenance activities include: Tai Chi, stretching classes and vocal
activities.
Therapy staff is also available to consult nursing as part of the interdisciplinary
care team which seeks to provide the best in positioning, wound and skin care, and
functional maintenance for our residents. If more physical assistance is needed,
restorative nursing is available.
